Some Interesting Facts About Nine-Buttoners

Now that I’ve released this little project, I’d like to share a few behind-the-scenes details.

About the enemies:
The most interesting thing is — they actually know how to use the elevator. If they don’t know where the player is (which happens if you get far enough away), they just start riding the elevators randomly. So it’s totally possible for an elevator to arrive empty. Haha.

About the party:
The party takes place in a random apartment, and if you're unlucky, it’ll be on the first or the top floor — which makes it harder to escape if the enemies show up.

About the elevators:
The elevators run back and forth fairly. In theory, both could be occupied by enemies at the same time. But that’s rare, since enemies always go to the nearest elevator and can even form a line while waiting.

About the inspiration:
Buildings like this might feel familiar to people from Eastern Europe, but the vibe for this particular one came from a building I lived in a couple of years ago in Armenia. It really didn’t have any windows, had a narrow staircase, and the elevator was loud enough to scare even the bravest souls.
Stairs and elevators are never the destination (hooligans, quiet down!) — so I thought it’d be fun to make them the main stage for the action.
